The Swell Season
(United States, 2011, 91 min.)

New York Times Critics Pick, The Swell Season is a poignant musical documentary that caresses audiences’ ears while tearing at their hearts. The black and white filming selected by directors Nick August-Perna, Chris Dapkins, and Carlo Mirabella-Davis creates an excellent contrast to the warm sound that nestles in and out of scenes. The film follows the romantic relationship that evolved between Academy Award winners Glen Hansard and Marketa Irglova.  Taking place over the course of two years, the couple grows to a new level of fame after the release of a movie, album, and world tour. Glen lavishes in their new success while Marketa shy’s away. The International Film Series is proud to announce that before the showings of The Swell Season, we will have a performance by guest singer and songwriter Danielle Ate the Sandwich from Fort Collins, Colorado.
