Winner of the Best Actress Award at the 2011 Cannes Film Festival, Melancholia is a sci-fi gem that depicts the end of the world. Written and directed by Lars Von Trier, each illustration of the earth’s slow but inevitable doom is a breathtaking spectacle of catastrophe. Struggling to understand a series of premonitions, Justine (Kirstin Dunst) attends her wedding day with apprehension for her husband and the future. It is discovered that a planet formerly hidden behind the sun called Melancholia is predicted to hit the earth in orbit. Justine is finally able to find peace and is no longer haunted by her depression while her sister Claire (Charlotte Gainsbourg) runs in alarm and denial.
