Lunafest (United States, 2000, 90 min.)
A festival for women, by women, and about women, Lunafest is a night to celebrate the joys and sorrows of womanhood. Starting as a one-time event, Lunafest now reaches over 150 cities in the United States and has crossed borders to Canada. Made up of eleven short films, Lunafest strives to examine what it means to be “woman” in today’s airbrushed, image-driven world. Started by the makers of the Luna Bar, Lunafest’s goals are to raise awareness about women filmmakers, women’s bodies, and the female condition while also functioning as a nonprofit event. The University of Northern Colorado’s International Film Series is proud to co-sponsor this event with UNC’s Women’s Resource Center. All proceeds from the event will be donated to the National Breast Cancer Fund and other local charities.
