Special Event! There will be a dance demo by the Nicholson-Klein Dance Company at 7pm preceding Wednesday's screening.
Nominated for five Oscars and winner of two, The Red Shoes depicts an up-and-coming ballerina, Victoria Page (Moira Shearer), torn between two passions. Directed, written, and produced by Michael Powell and Emeric Pressburger, the film examines art and its value in the human life. Based on the tale by Hans Christian Anderson, Boris Lermontov (Anton Walbrook) asks Julian Craster (Marius Goring) to compose the orchestrated score to The Red Shoes which Miss Page will perform. As Page and Craster work and travel together a deep romance ensues between the two, causing friction between the young couple and Lermontov. Filled with excitement that transcends the film’s age, the audience is left breathless as Miss Page gracefully leaps towards the only fate she can fathom when forced to decide between her two loves. Those who enjoyed Black Swan should not miss this classic.
