A winning portrait of innocence and corruption, A Prophet questions the worth of power in the search for family. Written by Jacques Audiard, Thomas Bidegain and directed by Audiard, the film recounts the tale of a nineteen-year-old Franco-Arab, Malik El Djebena (Tahar Rahim), who enters a French prison divided by its Corsican and Muslim inmates. Presented a hit job by the kingpin of the Corsican inmates, César Luciani (Niels Arestrup), Malik takes his first step as a loyal although Arab member of the Corsican clan. César moves Malik up as his right hand man, a position that requires complete devotion to the Corsican mafia and César’s personal agenda. Torn between his Corsican and Muslim ties, Malik struggles to pick sides while protecting his chances for freedom.
