 Joining the
Rocky Mountain Writing Project

The Rocky Mountain Writing Project is an affiliate of the National Writing Project, a collaborative university-school professional development resource community for K-16 teachers committed to leadership in writing instruction. The Invitational Summer Institute (ISI), the epicenter for training and networking, focuses on building a community of teacher-writers who demonstrate a willingness to tackle the challenges of being writers and teachers of writing. Ongoing continuity programs provide professional development opportunities to Fellows and extend RMWP’s influence by training professionals in writing instruction in K-16 classrooms in every discipline throughout Northeastern Colorado.
The RMWP is supported by the University of Northern Colorado School of English Language and Literature, College of Humanities and Social Sciences, and Graduate College. Support for the RMWP also comes from the National Writing Project.

Who are we looking for?
· RMWP Fellows are energetic, innovative teachers who believe in the value of teaching writing to students of all ages and all content areas.
· RMWP Fellows are committed to implementing the best instructional practices in their own classrooms by seeking out the latest innovations in education.
· RMWP Fellows are willing to take risks in their own teaching practices, to write and share their own materials, to ask questions that are critical to their own classroom community and their own teaching practices and are then willing to delve into answers for those questions.
· RMWP Fellows recognize that spending 5 weeks of their summer surrounded by like-minded teachers all committed to making changes for the betterment of students will empower them and in turn empower their students.

What the RMWP can do for me
· Professional development that can be as ongoing as you choose it to be;
· Exposure to the latest issues in education with the opportunity to explore your own answers for addressing those issues in your classroom;
· Opportunities to interact with other positive and energetic educators from Northern Colorado;
· Payback that includes money, recognition and opportunity in a way that enhances the need for teachers to be valued as true professionals.

What I can do for the RMWP
· Bring unique teaching successes and struggles before a group of outside "eyes and ears" that may have solutions and feedback from a new perspective;
· Influence other educators in a closeknit, ongoing environment;
· Expose others to my teaching, writing and research ideas.

How do I apply?
Attendance at the Summer Institute is by invitation and is limited to fifteen participants. Those selected will demonstrate:
· Successful classroom teaching
· Commitment to using writing in the classroom
· Desire and ability to teach other teachers
· Openness to new ideas and approaches to teaching
· Willingness to write
