Young Writer's Camp Part of the goals of National Writing Project local sites is to offer continuation programs for its Invitational Summer Institute fellows and to form partnerships with various entities including schools and districts that enable other teachers and students to be served positively by the programs developed by teacher leaders and teacher consultants. Beginning in 2006, the Rocky Mountain Writing Project will embark on the planning and implementation of two wonderful new programs. The first of these is a Young Writer’s Camp. The concept behind the YWC is to provide an opportunity for young writer’s to write outside of their classrooms. In addition to their writing, the camp would offer instruction typically in the form of mini-lessons, and an audience of other young writers with whom to share and exchange their written work. There are so many ways to establish a young writer’s camp, but the basic foundation is the chance for students to choose to participate out of a genuine desire to work on their own writing. The possibilities for organizing and implementing this program are infinite, and we welcome as much input as we can get. If you are interested in being part of the planning team for this incredible program or you have students at your school who would be interested in joining the camp, or you would like to serve as a teacher consultant facilitating the camp, please contact Cheryl Crill at (970) 593-1458 or jcrill7982@peakpeak.com. There is still a lot of work to be done before the program is up and running and any and all interested parties are encouraged to join the planning team!
