The Avi Book Club
After
attending the Leadership Summit at Devil’s Thumb Ranch near Winter
Park in October, the leadership team began plans for organizing the Avi
Book Club. The Rocky Mountain Writing Project is a partner with UNC’s
spring Writer’s Conference, and for the 2nd year is contributing
money to sponsor the on-campus visit of a young adult author. In preparation
for Avi’s visit in March , the leadership team is organizing a
book club for past Fellows of the RMWP and their guests to enjoy.
Participants
will choose to read from three Avi works representing all grade levels
and genres. The titles include: Poppy (elementary), What Do Fish To
Do With It Anyway? (middle school), and Nothing But the Truth (high school).
Participants will commit to reading at least one of the titles prior
to the Book Club meeting on February 9th, 2006. At that meeting participants
will have the opportunity to discuss the works with other teacher-readers.
Additionally, all participants will enjoy dinner sponsored by the RMWP.
Upon completion of the reading and discussion at the book club meeting,
participants will be invited to join in a face-to-face meeting with
Avi
prior to his public reading at UNC on March 2nd. Another dinner for
participants will follow the Avi meeting.
