In keeping with the decade-long movement toward a more student-centered approach to learning, this institute will provide a wealth of teaching strategies and materials to greatly facilitate this approach.

Consultant

Leslie PatinoLeslie Patiño has taught in both the US and Mexico.  For the last 20 years, she has taught in the Jefferson County (Colorado) School district.  She currently teaches Spanish at D’Evelyn Jr./Sr. High. She began teaching the AP* Spanish Language course in 1994 and became a reader in 1999.  She has been a College Board consultant since 2004, presenting workshops and summer institutes in the western U.S.  She has frequently presented at the annual CCFLT (Colorado Conference of Foreign Language Teachers) conference.  She served as the National Spanish Exam coordinator for Colorado, and as a board member of AATSP Colorado from 2003-2007.  In 2008, Amsco will publish Tinita, a reader she has written.  She has a B.A. in Spanish from the University of Texas, Austin and an M.A. in Linguistics from the University of Toronto.

Efrain GarzaDr.Efrain Garza received his B.A. in Spanish and Bilingual Education from the U of Texas at Brownsville, and his M.A. & Ph. D. in Romance Languages and Spanish Literature from Texas Tech University. Dr. Garza's professional career encompasses 24 years at both the elementary and secondary level (14 years) and the university level (10 years). Efrain Garza has been an Assistant Professor of Spanish Language and Literature at the University of Northern Colorado since 2004. He has participated for the last three years as AP Spanish Reader. His book Las leyendas de Becquer y su aproximacion al simbolismo frances was published by Edwin Mellen Press in 2006.
