IFS at University of Northern Colorado

The International Film Series at UNC was established in 1973 as a faculty initiative with

volunteer student support. While the series is spearheaded by student volunteers and staff, faculty from the School of English Language and Literature's Film Studies program and UNC Student Honors Council provide the leadership for the series. The International Film Series is supported with student fees allocated by the Student Representative Council. The Inernational Film Series is made possible by the many faculty, staff, and students from across campus who volunteer their time out of a common desire to show important international films to UNC students and members of the Greeley community.

The IFS is planning special events and screenings for Fall 2009. In October, watch for our International Horror Film series. This special series will include five new and classic international horror films that helped redefine the genre, many of which will be introduced by students and faculty.

We will also screen Samira Makhmalbaf's Blackboards, which depicts the struggles of a group of teachers in Kurdish Iran. We hope that Makhmalbaf's film will compliment the 2009 Freshman book, Three Cups of Tea, and plans are in the works for a special IFS event that will give members of the UNC and Greeley communities a chance to discuss the parallels between these two works.
