Honors, Scholars and Leadership Staff
Dr. Michael Kimball
Director for the Center for Honors, Scholars and Leadership
(970) 351-2277
In 2007, I came to UNC from Maine to serve a one-year appointment as the Robert O. Schulze Chair in Interdisciplinary Studies. Currently, I serve as HSL’s director and hold a joint appointment as an Associate Professor in UNC’s Anthropology Department. In the 1990s, I earned M.A. and Ph.D. degrees in anthropology from the University of Wisconsin-Madison following a B.A. in human ecology from the College of the Atlantic. My research interests focus on archaeology and my teaching interests include applied anthropology, cross-cultural dialogue, service learning, and community-based research. I look many places for inspiration – from indigenous peoples to my own two kids, Conor and Liam, and from great books to edgy films, martial arts, African drumming, and turning over mossy rocks.

I have been with the UNC Center for Honors, Scholars and Leadership since January 2008 and at University of Northern Colorado since March of 2006. I have a B.A. in Social Science, minor in Business Adminstration, from California State University Stanislaus and an M.A. in Educational Leadership from University of Northern Colorado. My interests include innovative honors curriculum development and integrating civic engagement into learning. I also love medieval history and can often be found re-creating the Middle Ages with my family including our new equine partner "Gadai."
Catherine Rohloff
Associate Director for Leadership and the President's Leadership Program

I received both my BA and MA in English from UNC. As the Associate Director of Leadership for HSL, and the Associate Director of the President’s Leadership Program (PLP), I serve as an administrator and as adjunct faculty. I have worked at UNC since the summer of 2006, and have been with PLP for that entire time. I live in Fort Collins with my husband, Cabel, our son, Ripkin, our dog, Bodie, and our cat, Mr. Miyagi. I enjoy playing soccer, eating great food, and working with students.
Margaret McKeown Kelley
Office Administrative Assistant

I am the Administrative Assistant here at the Center for Honors, Scholars and Leadership. I truly enjoy working with the faculty, staff and the students at UNC and have worked at HSL since February, 2010. There is never a dull moment in this office. In addition to being the Administrative Assistant for the Honors Program and the President’s Leadership Program, I am also the Administrative Assistant for the Life of the Mind program in HSL. I have a Bachelors of Science Degree from UNC in Business Management Administration Science. In my spare time I love to cook, read, and go on walks with our yellow Labrador. I also especially enjoy spending time with my husband, my teenage son and my family.
Scott Treas
Coordinator for Honors Advising and Communications
(970) 351-1775
I have been the Graduate Assistant with the Center for Honors, Scholars, and Leadership since January 2012. My role at HSL includes coordinating formal communication to the UNC and regional community. Additionally, I support community engagement with various initiatives and support student development through my work advising Honors students. I earned my Bachelor’s degree in Mental Health and Human Services from Northern Kentucky University. I am currently pursuing my Master’s degree in Clinical Counseling with an emphasis on Couples and Family Therapy at UNC. When not on campus working or studying, you can find me in the mountains having an adventure, a coffee shop having a conversation, or cycling around town with friends.
Kathy Sanchez
Leadership and Community Engagement Curriculum Design and Research Coordinator
(970) 351-1775
I have been a Graduate Assistant for the Center for Honors, Scholars and Leadership since Fall 2011. Since then, I have been responsible for assisting with developing service learning and leadership curriculum for Capacity Building members of the AmeriCorps program. I also help with planning and administering community-campus signature events such as Embracing Community Symposium and other Center related events and opportunities. I graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology and Human Development from Arizona State University and I am currently in the Ph.D. School Psychology program here at UNC. In the very little spare time I manage to have, I enjoy salsa dancing, watching documentaries, listening to podcasts, and spoiling my cat-with-a-dog-personality, Zoey.
