Office: Michener 112
Office Hours: By Appointment
I came to UNC from Tuscaloosa, Alabama in 2006 and earned tenure at UNC in 2012. I am an Associate Professor and Instruction Librarian and spend most of my waking hours in the James A. Michener Library! I earned my B.A. from Meredith College and my M.A. and M.L.I.S. from the University of Alabama (Roll Tide)! Along with serving as the Faculty Fellow for the OUR, I am also the Faculty-in-Residence for South Hall. In this role I work with students in South Hall on time management, stress management, and academic success. My work in James A. Michener Library includes teaching courses for students in Criminal Justice, CHE, and the Honor’s Program; I serve as the liaison to both the Criminal Justice and Philosophy Departments. My research interests include online Information Literacy instruction, Information Literacy outreach, service to diverse populations, and library assessment.
Dr. Michael Kimball
Director for the Center for Honors, Scholars and Leadership
In 2007, I came to UNC from Maine to serve a one-year appointment as the Robert O. Schulze Chair in Interdisciplinary Studies. Currently, I serve as HSL’s director and hold a joint appointment as an Associate Professor in UNC’s Anthropology Department. In the 1990s, I earned M.A. and Ph.D. degrees in anthropology from the University of Wisconsin-Madison following a B.A. in human ecology from the College of the Atlantic. My research interests focus on archaeology and my teaching interests include applied anthropology, cross-cultural dialogue, service learning, and community-based research. I look many places for inspiration – from indigenous peoples to my own two kids, Conor and Liam, and from great books to edgy films, martial arts, African drumming, and turning over mossy rocks.
Associate Director for Honors
I have been with the UNC Center for Honors, Scholars and Leadership since January 2008 and at University of Northern Colorado since March of 2006. I have a B.A. in Social Science, minor in Business Adminstration, from California State University Stanislaus and an M.A. in Educational Leadership from University of Northern Colorado. I work with the Office of Undergraduate Research coordinating Research Day and assisting the office with finding opportunities for Undergraduate Research funding and recognition. I am also the advisor to the Middle Ages Club, sharing my passion for medieval history research.
