Civic Engagement Initiatives

Earth Day Eco pledge wallThe Center for Honors, Scholars and Leadership has always been a campus leader in civic engagement, community service, experiential leadership opportunities, and sustainability education through its various program arms.  Additionally, the Center has spearheaded several past major endeavors including Earth Day, the 2008 Gang Prevention & Intervention Summit, and Embracing Community Together.  Over the past two years, HSL has continued to evolve its structure creating new affiliations with off campus community-based organizations.  This expansion of the HSL mission highlights the belief that intellectual inquiry and community involvement reinforce and enrich one another.  The growing community partnerships facilitate co-curricular civic engagement experiences for HSL students and provide substantial experiential education opportunities that positively contribute to the University’s role in the region.
