ASCENT Residential Learning Community

ASCENT is a living and learning community co-sponsored by the College of Natural and Health Sciences and the department of Housing & Residence Life. Students in this community take classes together, live in close proximity, and all have an interest in health sciences or other natural sciences.

Students living in the ASCENT community have had the opportunity to:

  • volunteer at local hospitals
  • talk with practicing nurses and doctors
  • informally get to know get to know some of the faculty within their majors
  • study with other students in their classes
  • mentor incoming first year students

Living in the ASCENT community provides students with academic resources as well, with the new ASCENT Library located right on the floor. The library includes a 4’ tall skeleton, models of a skull, brain, and heart, a chemistry molecule set, posters of various body parts and functions, and over 100 books donated by faculty!

ASCENT's Residential Learning Community is located in Wilson Hall on Central Campus. The ASCENT community floor houses 84 students and will be staffed by a Resident Assistant who is an upperclass ASCENT student. This community has a lot of fun learning, socializing, studying, and hanging out together! ASCENT is comprised of both upperclassmen and first year students, and as the community continues to grow, more and more students want to return to continue their college experience as part of the ASCENT community. Opportunities for students living in this community include: enrichment and social activities focused on science careers as well as leadership development, and community service opportunities.
