As this issue goes live, we are gearing up for the start of the Spring 2008 semester. How time flies! In fall 2007, we had our largest entering class in recent memory, and the energy and enthusiasm they have brought to Honors is already quite evident. We hope that as you review the news of Honors goings-on over this past year, you’ll get a real sense of what our community is all about—active, impassioned students who are seeking to make the most of their time at UNC!

This edition includes stories of pirates who joined the fight against cancer, the lucrative (and tasty) burrito fundraisers, Research Day, the International Film Series’ collaborations, and more. Whatever stories may catch your eye, be sure you read the Honors Director’s report from Marie Livingston. In April, she announced her transitional retirement from UNC, and her leadership and service will be greatly missed in the Honors community. However, Marie surprised us all at the Spring Honors Banquet with her announcement that, in order to build a lasting financial base for the Honors Scholarship Endowment, she would match up to $10,000 in total donations made to the fund through this past fall.

Although this issue focuses heavily on spring and summer 2007, stay tuned! We will resume publishing a Winter/Spring edition early in 2008 and will have plenty of news on fall 2007 news and events!

Happy Reading,
The Editorial Staff of the Honors Report
