International Film Series Collaborates on Films

Our stellar group of students and staff with the International Film Series weren’t the only ones collaborating on some of our movies this spring. IFS had the opportunity to team up with several different campus units on films this semester.

The English Patient.

In February, the English department brought Michael Ondaatje, author of The English Patient, to campus for the UNC Rosenberry Writers’ Conference. In cooperation with English on this special event, IFS screened the film version of The English Patient the week before his appearance to offer a fresh look at the narrative.

IFS partnered with the César Chávez Cultural Center in March to bring in Quinceañera for their César Chávez Cultural Week. IFS was able to add another facet to the week’s events and festivities with the film, and the planning and cooperation paid off with an entertaining cultural experience for patrons and high attendance numbers for IFS.

IFS has also been working with other organizations, such as GLBT and the cultural centers, to get the word out about our movies. We have even tried to encourage professors to recommend some of our films to their students as a way to add a cinematic element to language and cultural studies.

We are always looking for ways to make connections between the themes and topics of IFS films and other events and discussions happening on campus, so please don’t hesitate to contact us if you have an idea. The students and staff at IFS look forward to partnering with other groups on more films and events in the future!
