Who is the Higher Learning Commission (HLC)?

The Higher Learning Commission (HLC) is a regional accrediting body for universities. The team that will visit UNC in March is made up of higher education peers. A team from the Higher Learning Commission will spend time on campus, talking with students, faculty and staff, and evaluating how well UNC fulfills the Criteria for Accreditation. They may ask people on campus about the University's mission and vision. Read More...

Why is it important?

Regional accreditation is the highest quality standard in higher education in the U.S. When a student pursues a degree at UNC, there are several reasons why regional accreditation is a critical indicator of quality and reputation. Accreditation means a students credits are transferable and that UNC qualifies to offer federal student financial aid and other federal grants and contracts. Read More...

  1. Attend an open forum with the HLC reviewers March 10 at 3pm at the UC.
  2. Review the Self-Study Report.
  3. Become familiar with UNC’s mission, vision, and goals.
  4. Prepare to interact with the HLC review team.
  5. Be yourself!

  2. Shoot: Sign up for the half-time half-court shot contest at ;the HLC booth at the beginning of one of the following basketball games: February 14, February 19, February 21 and March 7
  3. Instagram: Instagram photos of you and your fellow Bears engaging in the UNC community and in your program of study using tagging your photos #BEARS4HLC to be entered into the drawing that will take place on March 5. Your photo must show up on the feed below (make sure you mark your private settings to “Public” on your Instagram account).
