Joan Pratt |
Joan Klobe Pratt has taught in the UNC History Department since 1987. She received her Ph.D. in Russian history from the University of Missouri-Columbia in 1983. Dr. Pratt offers undergraduate and graduate classes in imperial and Soviet historical periods, and in non-Soviet Eastern Europe. She also teaches the history of science and technology and Western Civilization.
Dr. Pratt recently published an article in the Russian Review on the connection between the development of civil society and the promotion of smallpox vaccination in tsarist Russia. Current research projects include a monograph on Russian voluntary associations with an emphasis on the activities of the Russian Free Economic Society. Last summer, she participated on a panel at the VII World Congress of the International Council for Central and East European Studies in Berlin. The subject of the panel was Russian medicine, and the topic of the paper Dr. Pratt delivered, the medical and public health work of voluntary associations in imperial Russia.
Dr. Pratt is a fan of the St. Louis Cardinals baseball team.
