Creating Safer Spaces for LGBTQI Students

Guest Speakers: Steph Wilenchek

This interactive training helps participants develop a deeper awareness of personal ideas, stereotypes, and assumptions related to the LGBTQ community and helps increase participants’ comfort level supporting LGBTQ students and faculty in UNC classes.

Educational Research Ethics

Guest speakers: Dr. Susan Hutchinson and Dr. Maria Lahman

Ethical decisions researchers make may be said to be the foundation of all rigorous research. If that is so, what guides your ethical choices? This talk will help attendees move beyond IRB requirements, a required starting place, to forming a personal ethical research stance. Attendees should bring examples of ethical dilemmas they would like to discuss.

Establishing Your Educational Identity & Philosophy

Participants will examine their results from the Leahy Educational Philosophic Inventory to identify their personal educational philosophy (newcomers will take the inventory, as well), discuss the six educational theories, plus one other, and lay the foundation for crafting a verbal and written statement of one’s own educational philosophy.

Kimberley uses in-class student activities in her Mass Communication class. In this workshop, she shares ideas and helps teachers to develop their own.
