Research
“Staff members in the Graduate School, representatives of Graduate Council, and Graduate Faculty members at the University of Northern Colorado take pride in the high-quality theses and dissertations graduate students conduct. They are also committed to assisting students in their academic endeavors.”
(Taken from the Preface of the UNC Thesis and Dissertation Manual)
Part of the role of the Graduate Student Association is to support graduate students in their research endeavors. The GSA does this by:
- providing limited funding for eligible expenses
- working to increase awareness among the UNC community of the large number of research projects being conducted by our graduate students
- helping graduate students find research participants
- helping to provide opportunities for students to present research
GSA Funding
As stated, the GSA has limited funding to award student for help with research. For more information, please click here.
Research Topics at UNC
The GSA also would like to post current research topics and projects for anyone interested to see. This would promote communication among researchers and allow those outside the university to view the research that UNC students perform. Research projects will be posted by research area or discipline. To have your research project posted on the GSA website, please send an e-mail to gsa@unco.edu with the title of your research, your major (program & degree), and your name. If you would like your e-mail address posted, please include this request in your e-mail. Otherwise, no personal contact information will be included.
Research Participants
Graduate students often experience difficulties finding participants with whom to conduct their studies. The GSA can help researchers find participants by posting information on the website or by sending it via the graduate student listserv. Anyone interested in participating or who meets the research participant criteria is encouraged to help. Oftentimes, participants can learn also. The students conducting research may or may not provide compensation or an incentive for participation.
If you need help finding participants, please send an e-mail to gsa@unco.edu with “Research Participant Request” in the subject line. Please include your name and formal request for participation that is being used to recruit participants, as well as any other documentation that participants need.
Research Presentation
Opportunities exist for presenting research (either research-in-progress or completed research). Every year, UNC hosts a Research Day where both undergraduate and graduate students can present their research in poster format or oral format. Students are also encouraged to seek opportunities to present within their respective disciplines at conferences that may take place throughout the country. Doing so is beneficial to students’ educational as well as professional careers. Research Day takes place at the University Center every spring. Proposals sheets become available early in spring semester and are due before spring break. For more information, please click here.
