Access to UNC Libraries. The community benefits from and has access to UNC’s libraries. Michener Library, named after the late author, UNC alum and faculty member James A. Michener, contains more than 1.5 million items. The Howard M. Skinner Music Library contains more than 100,000 scores, books, periodicals, and recordings housed in a state-of-the-art facility
Beautiful landscapes. UNC’s beautiful campus offers 243 acres of open space, featuring pathways and park-like settings. Designated a Tree Campus USA, there are nearly 3,700 trees on campus. Visitors can walk three different hour-long Tree Trails through campus and learn about the history and characteristics of more than 100 specific trees.
