A Parent's Guide to Greek Life
Welcome to the Greek Life at the University of Northern Colorado! We encourage you to take a few minutes to look at this website and learn about the incredible opportunities available for your student. Research has shown that the more students are involved in college the more successful they will be. Joining a fraternity or sorority is one of these opportunities and offers a meaningful way to maximize the college experience.
Greek Life has been a part of the UNC community for nearly a century and still continues with a strong tradition today. These organizations promote academic excellence, leadership, service, and active contribution to both the UNC and surrounding communities. Our fraternity and sorority community consists of 9 sororities and 11 fraternities with a total membership of over 600 undergraduate students. Each fraternity and sorority at UNC belongs to a governing council: the Interfraternity Council, Multicultural Greek Council, National Pan-Hellenic Council and Panhellenic Council. All of the councils work closely with the University to promote the wellbeing of all members. While each organization maintains its own activities, traditions, and national affiliations, each is founded on similar principles of scholarship, leadership, community service, and life living friendship.
By joining a fraternity or sorority, your student will have a number of opportunities to develop relationships and personal growth skills that will extend far beyond their years on campus. We look forward to beginning the journey with you and working with both you and your student in the future. Please let us know how we can help you and feel free to contact our office at any time.
