A Parent's Guide to Fraternity & Sorority Life
Dear Parents and Guardians,
Welcome to Fraternity and Sorority Life at the University of Northern Colorado! We encourage you to take a few minutes to look at this website and learn about the incredible opportunities available for your student. Research has shown that students that are involved in a club or organization in college are more likely to graduate in a timely manner. Joining a fraternity or sorority is a great way to get involved at UNC and offers a meaningful way to maximize the college experience.
Fraternity and Sorority Life has been a part of the UNC community for nearly a century and continues to build on the tradition today. Fraternities and sororities promote academic excellence, leadership, service, and active contribution to both the UNC and surrounding communities. Our fraternity and sorority community consists of 9 sororities and 12 fraternities with a total membership of over 700 undergraduate students. Each fraternity and sorority at UNC belongs to a governing council: the Interfraternity Council, the Multicultural Greek Council, the National Pan-Hellenic Council, and the Panhellenic Council. These councils are housed in the Student Activities Office, and all of the councils work closely with the University to promote the well-being of their members. Currently, two professional staff members are dedicated to working with the fraternity and sorority community to ensure that their organizations follow UNC and council policies. While each organization maintains its own activities, traditions, and national affiliations, each is founded on similar principles of scholarship, leadership, community service, and life-long friendship.
By joining a fraternity or sorority, your student will have a number of opportunities to develop relationships and personal growth skills that will extend far beyond their years on campus. We look forward to beginning the journey with you and working with both you and your student in the future. Please let us know how we can help you and feel free to contact our office at any time.
