FAQ for Prospective Students

Q. What are the requirements for graduate school admission?

  • The graduate school has a set of admissions requirements and individual academic programs may also have a set of requirements so it is important to also check with your program of interest.

Q. How do I apply to get a teaching certificate/licensure?

  • It is the same process as applying to the Graduate School. Please see the information listed above.

Q. Will you send me an application for admission?

  • An application can be mailed after you provide us with mailing information OR you can download the application from the Graduate School web page.  You also have the option of applying online.

Q. I have applied for admission into the Graduate School. How can I check my status?

  • To check the status of you application, please click here. If you problems accessing your information online, please call or email the Graduate School and we will be able to check the current status of your application and advise you of any other steps you may want to take. The telephone number for the Graduate School is 970-351-2831. Our email address is grad.school@unco.edu.

Q. I would like to delay my admission. What should I do?

  • Notify the Graduate School in writing and send a copy to the department notifying them of the semester you plan to start.

Q. I want to decline admission. What should I do?

  • Notify the Graduate School in writing and send a copy to the department notifying them. Please let us know if you wish to have your file closed. If you indicate that you do not want your file closed, it will remain active for one (1) year.

Q. I was admitted into a graduate program at UNC years ago. How can I start again?

  • If it has been longer than 1 year since you applied, please reapply. If it has been shorter than 1 year, please conatct Linda Si

Q. I haven't been admitted but would like to change my major. What should I do?

  • If you have not been admitted or have been admitted but not started classes, submit your request in writing to the Graduate School. Please include your name, address and student ID, or you can email the information to Linda Sisson at linda.sisson@unco.edu.

Q. Who gets the letters of recommendation?

  • The programs will receive the letters of reccomendation. Letters of recommendation sent to the Graduate School will be forwarded to the program(s) you are applying for.

Q. What is the deadline for applying to Graduate School?

  • The Graduate School accepts and processes applications throughout the year. Generally, you should apply 60 days prior to the beginning of the semester in which you desire admission. Contact the individual program areas for departmental or program specific deadlines.

  • The University Catalog lists all programs offered on or off campus as well as classes needed for each degree.
