FAQ for Prospective Students
What are the requirements for graduate school admission?
The graduate school has a set of admissions requirements and individual academic programs may also have a set of requirements so it is important to also check with your program of interest.
What is the deadline for applying to Graduate School?
- The Graduate School accepts and processes applications throughout the year. Generally, you should apply 60 days prior to the beginning of the semester in which you desire admission. Contact the individual program areas for departmental or program specific deadlines.
What are the other important graduate student deadlines?
I have applied for admission into the Graduate School. How can I check my status?
- Call or email the Graduate School and we will be able to check the current status of your application and advise you of any other steps you may want to take. The telephone number for the Graduate School is 970-351-2831. Our email address is grad.school@unco.edu.
I would like to delay my admission. What should I do?
- Notify the Graduate School in writing and send a copy to the department notifying them of the semester you plan to start.
I want to decline admission. What should I do?
- Notify the Graduate School in writing and send a copy to the department notifying them. Please let us know if you wish to have your file closed. If you indicate that you do not want your file closed, it will remain active for one (1) year.
Which graduate programs does UNC offer?
- The University Catalog lists all programs offered on campus as well as classes needed for each degree.
When do academic sessions/classes begin?
- These dates are listed on the university's academic calendar.
- The Graduate School will mail a catalog by request. To receive a copy of the catalog, please include $5 to cover postage. Please allow 2 weeks for delivery.
Will you send me an application for admission?
- An application can be mailed after you provide us with mailing information OR you can download the application from the Graduate School web page. You also have the option of applying online.
What programs do you offer in ... (Denver, Colorado Springs, Grand Junction, On-line, etc.)
- A listing of current off-campus programs can be obtained through the Office of Extended Studies (1-800-232-1749 or 303-351-2944).
Do you have degrees offered through correspondence?
- No, but the Office of Extended Studies does offer non-degree courses through correspondence.
How do I apply to get a teaching certificate/licensure?
- It is the same process as applying to the Graduate School. Please see the information listed above.
I would like to change my major. What should I do?
- If you have been admitted to a graduate program and begun coursework in a degree program, you must complete a Request of Change of Major.
I haven't been admitted but would like to change my major. What should I do?
- If you have not been admitted or have been admitted but not started classes, submit your request in writing to the Graduate School. Please include your name, address and student ID, or you can email the information to Linda Ketels at linda.ketels@unco.edu.
