English Language proficiency requirements

UNC TOEFL Requirements:

  • Graduate: A TOEFL score of 550 - paper based test; 213 - computer based test; 80 - internet based test or an Intensive English Language Test score of 7.0.
  • Undergraduate (Most Programs): A TOEFL score of 520 - paper based test; 190 - computer based test, 70 - internet based test.
  • Undergraduate - Business School: A TOEFL score of 550 - paper based test; 213 - computer based test; 80 - internet based test.

Applicants for graduate admission who have completed a previous degree in the United States within the previous two (2) years are exempt from this requirement. Applicants may also meet the language proficiency requirements by successfully completing the UNC Intensive English Language Program. student studying

The Intensive English Language Program (IELP) at UNC serves students who have been admitted to the university and who speak a language other than English as their first language. The IELP provides instruction to help students with:

  • academic English
  • effective study strategies
  • integration into the University of Northern Colorado academic community
