Congratulations on your acceptance to the University of Northern Colorado! Now what? As a new student, there are several steps to take to ensure a smooth transition with as little inconvenience as possible. Use this site to help you get started. It’s packed full of valuable resources and instructions to set you on your path to academic success.
Getting Started
- Look at the dates on the Northern Colorado academic calendar and activities calendar.
- A CD of the catalog can be sent out by the Graduate School; you may also access the online catalog.
- Your Bear Number was sent to you by mail, you will need it to create an Ursa account. Ursa is the online tool to register for classes, review financial aid, change your address, check campus announcements and access many other tools.
- Review the living costs for Graduate students, the overall tuition costs and tuition details.
- Apply for Financial Aid (by March 1 of each year) and review the graduate scholarships .
- Check out more detailed information regarding graduate scholarships, assistantships and assistantship guidelines.
- Check out the on-campus housing or off-campus housing accommodations.
- Choose a dining plan if you'd like to eat on-campus.
- Decide if you would like to enroll for university health insurance.
- Check to see if you meet the immunization requirements.
- Obtain a UNC Card.
- Find out about parking options.

- Notify the Graduate School in writing and send a copy to the program area notifying them of your decision. Please let us know if you wish to have your file closed. If you indicate that you do not want your file closed, it will remain active for one (1) year. For more information, please contact the Graduate School at: grad.school@unco.edu.
- I haven’t been admitted but would like to change my major. What do I need to do?
- If you have not been admitted or have been admitted but have not started classes, submit your request in writing. Remember to include your name, address, student ID number (Bear #) and other pertinent information.
- May I apply to several UNC graduate programs at one time?
- No, you may apply for a double major; however, you cannot apply for multiple programs at the same time. You may contact Linda Sisson at linda.sisson@unco.edu with questions.

- A listing of current off-campus programs can be obtained through the Office of Extended Studies (1-800-232-1749 or 303-351-2944) or visit the Office of Extended Studies website: http://www.unco.edu/extendedstudies/
- Do you have degrees offered through correspondence?
- No. The Office of Extended Studies offers only Non-Degree courses through correspondence.
- How do I apply to get a teaching certificate/licensure?
- You must apply to the Graduate School by either completing an On-line Application or download the application, complete and send to the Graduate School, 501 20th Street, Greeley, CO 80639-0064. You may also access the application forms online.
