Graduate Assistantships - Administrative Offices
Applications
Applications for administrative graduate assistantships are available through the Graduate School or in the administrative offices of the university. Completed applications must be returned to Carter Hall 2007 by early March each year. Applications will be reviewed for admission and sent to division personnel for further screening and interviews.
Availability of positions is contingent upon funding. Appointment decisions are made in early April for the following fall academic year.
Graduate Assistants
A. Eligibility Requirements
- Student must be admitted to a graduate degree program at UNC.
- In order to be eligible for a tuition stipend, student must maintain full-time graduate status (and enroll for 3-10 credit hours per semester) during the period of the appointment. Students enrolled for dissertation hours only will be allowed to hold an assistantship for a maximum of two (2) semesters provided they are enrolled for a minimum of six (6) hours of dissertation each semester.
B. Graduate Assistant positions will be assigned to work in proportion to their FTE during the semester.
C. Compensation
- The stipend base for an individual will be determined by the student's highest degree in the field (or related area) of the appointment.
- The stipend for a Graduate Assistant is based on the previous degree earned.
D. Tuition Assistance
- Graduate Assistant positions are typically eligible for in-state tuition assistance for up to 10 credit hours for the academic semester(s) of the appointment. Students are responsible for other charges, including student fees and any other special fees. The total tuition assistance is limited to equivalent full-time tuition charges.
