Application Deadlines
Submit the following application materials to Valerie Anderson in the School of Music:
- Fall & Spring Admissions: School of Music Applicants are encouraged to apply as soon as possible to secure an audition date and time. Auditions day fill quickly. 2012-2013 Auditions will be held:
- Saturday, February 11, 2012
- Monday, February 20, 2012
- Saturday, February 25, 2012
School of Music Admission Requirements
Submit the following application materials to Valerie Anderson in the School of Music:
- School of Music Application (pdf)
- A DVD or QuickTime video file, about 20 minutes in duration, which shows a teaching episode representative of the applicant's instructional abilities. (Recommended for Masters applicants) (International applicants should ensure that their video recording is compatible with American video playing standards.)
- An audio recording, about 10 to 15 minutes in duration, which demonstrates the applicant's performing ability on their primary instrument or voice. Two pieces of contrasting styles are recommended.
- NOTE: Items (2) and (3) above may be provided on the same media disc, or they may be provided via internet links to video and audio files. Also, an in-person audition on one of the scheduled School of Music audition dates may be done in lieu of (3).
- Two to four Letters of Recommendations (pdf) addressing teaching abilities, potential for success in graduate studies, musicianship, and collegiality. (Recommended for Masters applicants)
- A statement of educational goals. This may be in the form of a narrative letter or brief essay, one to two pages in length, which describes the candidate's teaching background and intent of obtaining the degree.
- An example of scholarly/academic writing. This could be a paper or project completed as part of the applicant's previous degree program.
- A professional résumé. This should include the complete contact information, as the area head of music education will wish to contact and interview applicants to the graduate music education program.
UNC Graduate School Requirements
Applicants must also apply to the University of Northern Colorado Graduate School. To apply, submit the following materials in a single packet along with the application fee. Failure to submit all required materials will delay the evaluation and screening of your application.
- $50 non-refundable application fee
- International Students: $60 non-refundable application fee
- Submit Graduate Record Examination (GRE) General Test Scores
- Required Minimum: 140 Quantitative; 146 Verbal Reasoning; Combined score of at least 297; Analytic Writing 3.5
- Completed Online Application
- One official copy of transcripts from all accredited college or university attended since completing high school. UNC Alumni need not submit transcripts
Music students pay private lesson and program fees in addition to the tuition listed below.
Tuition Rates below are for the 2012-2013 school year. These tables do not include eligible course fees that apply to certain courses.
