Commencement Information

Where

The University of Northern Colorado will host a Fall semester commencement ceremony for master's, doctoral, and specialist candidates on Friday, December 11th at "7:00 PM'' in the "Butler-Hancock Field House" located on UNC West campus http://www.unco.edu/uncmap/. No tickets are required for admission and seating for family and friends is available on a first-come basis. The ceremony will be approximately two hours.

Time

All candidates will assemble at '6:15 PM' at the UNC Student Recreation Center adjacent to Butler-Hancock.

  • Master's and Specialist's students should then proceed to the Graduate School table and pick up their name card and have their hood checked. Tassels are worn to the left. The name card will be given to the reader at the ceremony to announce the graduate's name as he/she goes accross the stage; the number on the card wil be used for lining up graduates for the procession.
  • Doctoral students should check in with graduate school and have their hood folded. Caps are worn with tassels to the left. (probably should say something about both tassels. Doctoral students do not need a namecard. Use number fo lining up. Doctoral students will be hooded by their reserach advisor on stage.

Faculty Procession

The Faculty Procession will assemble at '6:30 PM' in the Student Recreation Center. Faculty and candidates for degrees must appear in appropriate academic regalia to take part in the commencement ceremony. Commencement rehearsal is only for faculty marshals and banner carriers. Faculty deadline for ordering regalia is 'April 1st'; orders can be placed online at http://www1.herffjones.com/college/graduation/index.cfm.

Cap and Gown Rental, Distribution, Return

  • Rental of commencement regalia will take place on 'Wednesday, February 25, Thursday, February 26, and Friday, February 27 from noon to 5 p.m., at the Barnes and Noble Bookstore located in the University Center' from Herff-Jones representatives, Unique Recognistions.
  • Rental orders may be submitted online from December 1st and ends March 2nd at http://www1.herffjones.com/college/graduation/index.cfm or call (970) 663-2668
  • Distribution of regalia will take place at the University Center on Thursday, December 10th fromUNC cap and gown "10 AM - 5 PM" and Friday, December 12th from "10 AM - 4 PM'.
  • A representative from the Herff-Jones company will also be available at the Recreation Center the night of graduation at 6 PM,' December 11th' for adjustments to regalia accessories (tassels, hoods) and for last minute regalia distribution. The Herff-Jones representative will require CASH ONLY; no credit cards or checks for any orders made the evening of 'December 11th'.
  • Instructions for return of regalia will be given the night of graduation. The tassel is a keepsake.

Helpful Reminders

  • Graduates should make arrangements to leave personal items (coats, purses, cameras, etc.) with family or friends as a safety precaution. There is no secure area to leave your belongings.
  • Candidates must appear in a appropriate academic regalia to take place in the commencement ceremony.
  • The ceremony will be approximately two hours in lenght.

Photographer

The University has contracted with a professional photographer to take pictures of each graduate as they receive their diploma cover from the president. A proof of that picture will be sent to graduates with information about prices and the process to be used to order prints. There is no obligation to use this service.

Disability Access

Accessible seating will be available at the ceremony on a first-come basis. If students have any concerns regarding disability access for this event, or they have guests attending with concerns, they should call the Disability Support Services at (970) 351-2289.

Accomodations

For information on the City of Greeley and accomodations, please visit the Visitors Bureau.

Diploma

Diplomas for graduate students will NOT be available at commencement. Unless the student has mUNC diplomaade other arrangements, diplomas will be mailed to the address provided by

completing the Diploma Request Card. If graduates do not complete the Diploma Request Card, diplomas will be available on or after January 15, 2010. Graduates may contact the Graduate School if degree verification is required prior to January 15, 2010.

Transcript

Transcripts may be ordered

  • on-line from the Registrar's Office
  • written request with payment may be mailed to the Registrar's Office, UNC Campus Box 50, Greeley CO 80639
  • or a request may be faxed to (970) 351-1870

Transcripts released before January 15, 2010 will not have the degree indicated. Contact the Graduate School if verification of your degree is required prior to January 15, 2010.

NOTE: The University of Northern Colorado no longer holds a Summer commencement ceremony. Students applying to graduate Summer semester are invited to particpate in the Spring or the following Fall commencement ceremony. Students must adhere to the posted deadlines for regalia ordering.
