Every|Day Hero Campaign
Wednesday, February 22nd
8:30pm
UC Ballrooms
The other side of the coin of bystander behavior is heroism. If you aren't being a bystander, then you have the opportunity to be a hero. This campaign empowers individuals to overcome bystander behavior and make the difference they want to make in critical moments of time for people, organizations, and issues - to be a hero.
Mike Dilbeck will discuss the barriers many of us feel when we consider whether or not to act and will provide audience members with three powerful tools for when they see unhealthy or negative behavior in their lives. Seizing an opportunity to act can dramatically change an individual's community and allow them to be an everyday hero.
Gen Silent film screening with IFS
Wednesday, April 4th
Thursday, April 5th
7:00pm
Lindou Auditorium
http://stumaddux.com/GEN_SILENT.html
Focused around a generation of GLBTA elders, Gen Silent documents the struggle of several elderly couples that wonder who will care for them or their lover when they are gone. Directed by Stu Maddux, Gen Silent is a reminder and a celebration of a generation that fought, picketed, and advocated for gay rights in the United States of America over the last century. Many of the aging GLBTA community are left to die alone because of strained relationships with family members and most have no children. Through a series of interviews with professional gerontologists, doctors, and caregivers, Maddux exposes a paradox within the gay community- those youngsters that came out of the closet are reluctantly crawling back in as elders.
