Melitta Wagner-Heaston has a Ph.D. in Education and Human Resource Studies with a specialization in Educational Leadership from Colorado State University, an M.A. in Education in Curriculum and Instruction from Colorado Christian University and a B.A. in French, minor in German, from California State University Among her research interests are Brain Compatible Teaching and Learning, Foreign Language Teaching Methodology, International Education and Teacher Education.
Prior to joining the UNC faculty, Melitta was French Department Chair at the Alexander Dawson School, an independent college preparatory school in Lafayette, Colorado, where she was also the French Study Abroad director, coordinating international student exchanges in France and Switzerland.
An Austrian native, Melitta completed her Diplôme Secondaire in French at the Institut de Sacré-Coeur in Liège, Belgium, and her secondary education at the Zurich International School in Kilchberg, Switzerland. Prof. Wagner-Heaston pursued post-secondary studies in Stuttgart, Germany and Bregenz, Austria. Alpine and cross-country skiing, hiking, kayaking, mountain biking and, of course, international travel are her passion. She is married with two grown children.
