President's Campus Communication 1/24/11

Dear Students and Colleagues,

I’m writing to invite you to two important events next week.

On Tuesday, Feb. 1, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the University Center, we will be collecting campus feedback about a major capital planning initiative for the core of our campus—the area on both sides of 11th Avenue south of 20th Street, where the UC and Bishop-Lehr Hall are now.

This event is the first step in refocusing our capital priorities as we respond to the recent and relatively permanent reductions in state funding. We are building on the results of two campus work groups, the Fall 2009 University Center Vision Committee and the July 2008 group that developed a plan for a flagship academic building on the Bishop-Lehr site.

We have engaged Denver design team studioINSITE to help us connect the work of these two groups and facilitate the workshop. They will collect your feedback on a number of topics, including existing campus amenities, space planning, safety considerations, campus open spaces and many other important factors for the future of our campus.

Please stop by the upper level of the UC anytime between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. next Tuesday, Feb. 1, to ask questions and share your insight.

I also invite you to join me for a campus brown bag lunch at 12:15 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 2, in the UC Ballrooms. I’ll give an update on the things we’ve accomplished through our University-wide planning effort since the beginning of the academic year and talk about what’s next.
