The University of Northern Colorado has had its share of competitive fencers. The first fencing team represented our school in 1926, which was then known as Colorado Teachers College. As a school for future teachers, women outnumbered men nearly six-to-one, and fencing began as a part of the women's athletics program at CTC.

Today, the University of Northern Colorado continues to offer fencing as a club sport, accepting both students and faculty/staff to participate in competitive and recreational fencing. The modern sport of fencing is a far cry from the choreographed bouts you see on film or on stage. Instead of swinging from a chandelier, or jumping from balconies, you will see two opponents locked in an intense battle upon a 6x40 foot strip, with movement that is so fast that hits have to be scored electronically.

For more information please contact us or better yet come by a practice!

In addition competitive fencing, UNCFC offers FREE introductory lessons, during which you will learn the fundamentals of the sport (i.e. the en garde stance, advancing, retreating, both offensive and defensive actions and much more). If, after three trial lessons, you would like to continue to participate in the club, we ask that you become a UNC Fencing Club Member.

Becoming a Member:
All good things come with a price, but it is a reasonable one. We promise!

  • Club dues for new members are $60 for the semester. You will receive a UNC Fencing Hoodie and are now eligible to check out equipment if you attend practices at least twice a week.

  • After becoming a member, dues for each semester are only $40.

  • Checks can be made out to UNCFC and cash, of course, is acceptable.

  • Membership to participate in UFSA tournaments is an additional $50 to be paid at the first tournament you attend. This will register you as a competition fencer and is good for a year.
