Conservation Tips

Tip of the Month
Temperatures in the spring can fluctuate 30 to 45 degrees throughout the day. Adjusting to this type of condition is difficult on a heating, ventilation and air conditioning system. Here are some things you can do to stay comfortable and reduce the strain on UNC's system:
- Set back the thermostat to 65 degrees in your area when occupied.
- Keep a sweater or lightweight jacket handy for the morning hours.
- Use blinds, shades or curtains on south and west facing windows to close or adjust them to help reduce heat.
Following these steps will help your space be a comfortable temperature by midmorning and reduce the chance of overheating in the afternoon.

  • When not in use, turn off lights, computers and other electronic and office equipment.
  • Buy equipment that has the Energy Star rating.
  • Use energy efficient compact flourescent light bulbs in all lamps.
  • Make double sided copies
  • Recycle paper and buy recycled paper.
  • Report energy waste to conservation@unco.edu.
