Recycling - Economics of Recycling

  • Every ton of recycled paper saves 17 trees.
  • Every ton of recycled paper saves 3 cubic yards of landfill space.
  • Producing paper from recycled paper requires 7,000 fewer gallons of water than required for producing virgin paper.
  • Producing paper from recycled paper produces 74% less air pollution and 35% less water pollution than producing virgin paper.
  • Manufacturing from scrap aluminum saves roughly 95% in energy costs.
  • In the 1980's, about 272 billion aluminum cans were collected for recycling. That translates into saving 2 billion feet of landfill space.
  • Recycling generates jobs and revenues and also reduces taxes and landfill fees at the same time.
