You have returned to a greener and beautiful campus that is graced with over 2,000 trees with an additional 80 trees planted this far in 2009.

The responsibility of Landscaping & Grounds includes the management of all campus turf including sports fields, tree and shrub care, flowerbed design and care, irrigation systems, snow removal and landscape design.
This department is also responsible for maintaining the 5-acre Xeric Demonstration Garden and the respective Community Garden plots. This department is responsible for implementing the Landscape Master Plan directives. Our staff assists in Project management: review and inspection of landscape and irrigation construction on the UNC campus. Landscaping & Grounds is also responsible in assisting with special events and conference programs preparation.
Landscaping & Grounds maintains a 269 acre campus with 14 classified employees who are assigned specific areas on campus and Sports fields. Overall, we plant over 5000 flowers, 40-50 trees per year, and recycle approximately 80-100 cubic yards of landscape waste each year.
The vision of the Landscaping & Grounds Department is to maintain a diverse and healthy landscape and to provide quality turf for athletic programs, and the campus. Our Mission is characterized by providing the university community with campus aesthetics and passive recreation, Safety, Plant health & Preservation and Water Conservation.
