Student Handbook

POLICIES AND PROCEDURES FOR NON-ADMITTED STUDENTS
(Those registered for individual courses and workshops through Extended Studies)

Revised April 2013

Registration and Costs

Registration is a simple procedure that begins when you complete and submit a registration form available in this brochure, on our website or by calling our office at the number listed below. Professional development course tuition varies course by course. Students are not required to pay for their registration costs up front but instead will be billed by the UNC Bursar's Office. Accounts not paid in full by the end of the month that the bill is received will be assessed a monthly finance charge. Course materials costs (textbooks, tapes, etc.) are ordered, assessed by and paid separately. (See Textbook Purchase, below.)

Register for Professional Development courses anytime by mail, phone or fax. Staff members are typically on duty Monday-Friday, 8am-5pm (Mountain Time), and our fax, voicemail and e-mail are available to you 24x7.

Registration does not constitute admission to the university. If you are already a student at the University of Northern Colorado and enrollment in the course causes you to be in an overload situation, you must obtain special permission from the Academic Advising Office or your advisor before you register. A UNC student may enroll for more than 18 semester hours per semester only with special permission.

Textbook Purchase

Textbooks for Professional Development courses can be purchased from whatever online book store source you typically work with.

Academic Approval of Credit Courses

Credit courses and instructors have been approved by the appropriate academic departments, curriculum committees, and colleges of the University of Northern Colorado . Professional Development course credits receive the same academic recognition as those earned in on-campus classes and are granted when you meet the same academic standards and expectations as your on-campus counterparts.

Library Services

If your assignments require library services to which you do not have access locally, contact the UNC Michener Library at 970-351-2562 for assistance or visit http://www.unco.edu/library/services/distance.htm . Special access is provided for individuals living more than 50 miles from UNC. Your syllabus/study guide may have more specific information concerning use of the library, items on reserve, reference resources, etc.

Withdrawals and Refunds

To withdraw from a PD course, you must telephone the Office of Extended Studies, 1-800-232-1749. Non-notification of withdrawal will result in full tuition being assessed. No drop/withdrawal fees are assessed if you drop the class on the first day of class. Withdrawal fees are unique to each course.

Schedule Changes

The Office of Extended Studies reserves the right to cancel courses, reschedule courses, or change instructors. Every effort will be made to inform the student of changes.
