This program will give students valuable experience in learning current issues in renewable energy and the environment from a global perspective, as well as broaden their cultural understanding of China.

PRINCIPLES OF PSYCHOLOGY (3 cr)

Syllabus

Surveys psychology as a science and applied discipline, including research methods, statistics, learning, motivation, sensation, perception, intelligence, personality and physiological, developmental, social and abnormal psychology. (LAC, gtP)

INTRODUCTION TO FAMILY STUDIES (3 cr)

Tentative Syllabus

This course surveys central topics and related research in the sociology of family and examines families as an evolving social institution.  Topics include historical and cultural variations in families, mate selection, cohabitation, marriage, parenting, divorce, remarriage, and step-parenting. 

SOCIOLOGY OF GENDER (3 cr)

Tentative Syllabus

Examine gender stratification and social inequality. Topics include cultural definitions of masculinity and feminity, socialization and social change. (LAC, gtP)

SOCIAL CHANGE IN A GLOBAL CONTEXT (3 cr)

Syllabus

We will examine theories of social change as well as the many factors that can combine in order to bring about social change. We will study approaches to change including social movements and revolutions as the product of social factors. We will compare the processes of change in underdeveloped countries with the processes of change in industrial societies. (LAC)

First part of a two semester sequence emphasizing the development of a functional proficiency in the four basic language skills of listening, speaking, reading and writing. (LAC)
