About Us

Environmental and Sustainability Studies Mission

To help individuals understand and address the significant challenges facing a growing human population dependent on the finite natural resources of earth.

Environmental and Sustainability Studies Program Overview

Public concern has become paramount on issues affecting the environment. Issues concerning the environment have attained prominent positions on the agendas of many political systems. The need for informed citizens to provide rational and objective feedback to legislators, policy makers, decision-makers at all levels, and for personal choices concerning the environment has become a priority in our society.

In response to this need, the University of Northern Colorado has had an environmental studies program for over 40 years. The focus of the major is to develop students with an interdisciplinary framework, able to foster an informed citizenry with the tools, knowledge and critical thinking skills to make rational and informed decisions for positive sustainable development.
