EMSA sponsored the following series of three webinars on Veteran’s Services: 

Veteran’s Services & Support: An Overview

This webcast offered campus professionals information about the unique and varied needs of veterans and explored how campuses can implement a support network to meet those needs.  Attendees were informed about the deployment cycle, challenges of returning home, helping veterans with their rebuilding phase, understanding laws and policies, and creating a web of support to help veterans succeed. Disability Services: Working with Student Veterans on Campus

The second in the series of three webcasts offered campus professionals information about the unique and varied needs of veterans and exploring how our campus can implement a support network to meet those needs.  Attendees learned more about the needs of returning veterans with emphasis on the different types of injuries most common for recent veterans, faculty shared best practices to help students both academically and socially, and examined ways to partner across campus. Preparing for the Emotional Concerns of Returning Veterans

The final webinar in the series of three offered campus professionals information about the unique and varied needs of veterans and exploring how our campus can implement a support network to meet those needs.  In this final webinar of the series, attendees learned more about veteran reintegration examining the student development tasks facing veterans in their readjustment to home and campus life, and successful strategies of campus outreach/intervention that have been implemented at other institutions. Building a Veteran-Friendly Campus

UNC participated in a webinar offered by Academic Impressions in April 2009 titled 'Building a Veteran-Friendly Campus - Supporting Veterans Reintegration'. Presenters, Steven Frantz, Office of the Chancellor at Minnesota State Colleges and Universities, and Donald Pfeffer, Higher Education Veterans Program with the Minnesota Department of Veterans Affairs, shared a case study of the Minnesota Department of Veterans Affairs. This webinar offered campus professionals information on the unique and varied needs of veterans and explored how our campus can implement a support network to meet those needs.  Attendees were educated on the deployment cycle, challenges of returning home, helping veterans overcome readjustment issues, understanding laws and policies, and creating a web of support to help veterans succeed.
