Writing Center Policy
What does the Writing Center offer to students?
Students can receive assistance at any stage of the writing process:
brainstorming ideas
organizing the writing assignment
grammar, punctuation, mechanics
sentence structure
paragraph development
revision
polishing the final draft
Tutors also read assignments besides essays. They offer help on any
writing assignment across the circumlunar in any course or discipline
at any level, from undergraduate to post gradate work, including these
writing assignments:
Essays required with
applications to degree programs, scholarships, or job applications
Grammar exercises from
workbooks
Clinical reports for
students in PTEP, Nursing, and other programs
Creative Writing Projects.
Services the Writing Center does not provide:
The Writing Center tutors do not proofread papers, so when you schedule
an appointment give a specific problem that you need help with.
Tutors do not edit or proofread papers that have been "dropped
off"; instead, student and tutor will discuss the problems the
paper has. Students can expect their tutor to give them good instruction
that will help correct problems.
Appointment Length:
Most appointments are half an hour; however, students
can schedule one hour appointments. Students may schedule 90 minutes
of tutoring per week.
What to bring to the appointment:
- your writing assignment
- the assignment (any material that your instructor has given to help
the tutor understand the assignment)
- textbook, class notes, anything that will help understand the assignment
- concerns and problems you want to address during the tutoring session
Working with your favorite tutor:
You can request your favorite tutor, but he or she may not be available.
