Services the Writing Center Does Not Provide

Writing Center tutors do not proofread papers, so when you schedule an appointment, identify a specific problem that you need help with.

Tutors do not edit or proofread papers that have been “dropped off” instead, tutors will discuss with clients the problems that their papers have. Clients can expect tutors to give them good instruction that will help correct problems.

Appointment Length

Most appointments are for half an hour; however, students can schedule one-hour appointments. Students may schedule 90 minutes of tutoring per week.

What to Bring to the Appointment

  • your writing assignment
  • the assignment (any material that your instructor has given to help the tutor understand the assignment)
  • textbook, class notes, anything that will help understand the assignment
  • concerns and problems you want to address during the tutoring session
