Faculty have high expectations for student writing, and often students do not meet those expectations. Students will certainly benefit from working with Writing Center tutors. Faculty can recommend a visit to the Writing Center to students who struggle with writing assignments. Tutors will not “correct” their work; rather they will instruct students so that they can learn to do their own editing and proofreading. We will work with students on these common writing concerns:
- creating clear and focused writing
- writing strong thesis sentences
- organization
- paragraph structure
- grammar
- sentence structure
- punctuation
- documentation and citations
- works cited and reference lists
- MLA and APA
- ESL
