London, Summer, 2001

***********
Dear parents, friends, significant others, and interested bystanders:

Students in my Senior Seminar, ENG 497, Literary Geography of England, have spent the past three weeks reading, discussing, and making class reports on selected literary works, with special attention to settings; the biographies of authors, with special attention to important places in their lives; and the history and theory of tourism. And they have done an outstanding job preparing themselves for this trip.

By the time you read this, they will be in London, immersed in the culture they have been studying for the past three to four years--probably at your expense. This site belongs to the students, so that what you will see and read will reflect their experiences--selected, annotated, and organized by them. So they--and I-- hope you will enjoy following our journey through this web site.

John E. Loftis
Professor of English
