Cassie’s research interests:

My main research interest is what motivates students to want to learn and how educators can facilitate this motivation. However, I’m also interested in areas such as development and physiology.

What Cassie currently does for work and research:

I am a TA and I am currently teaching two sections of Human Growth and Development. For research projects, I am working with Dr. Pugh on two projects. One project focuses on teaching for transformative experiences in a sixth grade classroom, and the other focuses on goal orientation and transformative learning in a college-level problem-based learning unit.

What Cassie does for fun as a graduate student:

For fun I love to hike in the mountains. My boyfriend  and I moved to Colorado from Kansas last year, and we’ve become somewhat obsessed with hiking in and to the tops of mountains. Aside from that, I enjoy good music, good beer, good books, and playing with my dog, Cooper.

What else does Cassie want us to know about her?

I love teaching college students. I feel lucky I have had the opportunity to continue to teach while working on my Ph.D. I live with my boyfriend (who actually has a BS in psychology and is now working on his second Bachelor’s in jazz studies/guitar performance) and our miniature schnauzer, Cooper. Given my boyfriend’s field, we tend to listen to and enjoy a lot of jazz and live music in general. Even though I don’t see them too often as they still live in Kansas, I love my parents and really miss my two sisters. I’m practically never bored, but if I find myself with nothing to do, I love a good game of Zelda or a nap.
