ASL- English Interpretation Program

ADMISSION PROCESS

Admission to the ASL-English Interpretation BA program is a three (3) step process:


Step 1 - complete and send the ASLEI pre-application form.
Step 2 - complete the ASL Demonstration of Competency screening.
Step 3 - complete the full ASLEI and UNC applications upon request.

to be considered for the 2015/16 academic year

Complete the Pre-application form and email, along with all unofficial transcripts (if applicable) to susan.brown@unco.edu.

Once these documents have been received a program representative will email you the instructions for how to register for and complete the required ASL Demonstration of Competency (Step 2).

NOTE: If you are a nationally credentialed interpreter (RID or EIPA 4.0+ and written test) the ASL Demonstration of Competency will be waived. Verification of all identified credentials need to be scanned and emailed along with this pre-application form to:susan.brown@unco.edu 
no later than January 15, 2015.

Complete the ASL Demonstration of Competency screening

Applicants interested in applying to the ASL-English Interpretation BA program must first complete an ASL Demonstration of Competency Screening.  The purpose of the screening is to determine readiness for the program. The program entry requirement is demonstrated ASL proficiency at a conversational level commensurate with four semesters of instruction in American Sign Language.

There is a charge of $150.00 for this screening.

Once you have completed your screening and program requisite ASL skills are determined (May take up to 6 weeks), a program representative will contact you with how to proceed with your full application to UNC and the ASLEI program (Step 3). It is recommend that you wait to hear if you qualify to the ASLEI program before you apply for admissions to UNC.

Once it has been determined that you have the requisite ASL skills to begin the program an email will be sent to you with instructions on the final steps to applying to UNC and the ASLEI program. This step will include:

  • Submission of UNC application and official transcripts
  • Submission of ASLEI application
  • A letter of recommendation
