ASL DEMONSTRATION OF COMPETENCY (DOC)
The purpose of the UNC-DO IT Center ASL Demonstration of Competency is to determine your language readiness for admission and placement in the ASL-English Interpretation baccalaureate program. The program entry requirement is demonstrated ASL proficiency at a conversational level commensurate with four semesters of instruction in American Sign Language.
There is a charge of $150.00 for this screening. ASLEI applications will not be reviewed until the screening is complete.
If you are a nationally credentialed interpreter (RID or EIPA 4.0+ and EIPA written test) the ASL Demonstration of Competency will be waived.
The ASL Demonstration of Competency screening is administered through the UNC virtual classroom Blackboard and has 3 components:
- ASL Expressive
- ASL Knowledge: Linguistics and Culture.
- ASL Receptive
In order to register and complete the ASL screening you must first submit the ASLEI pre-application form. Once this form has been submitted an admissions representative will email you further information and instructions on how to register.
