ASL Proficiency Screening
February 17-21, 2016
April 13-17, 2016
June 15-19, 2016
The purpose of the ASL proficiency screening is to determine your language readiness for admission and placement in the ASL-English Interpretation baccalaureate program. The program entry requirement is demonstrated ASL proficiency at a conversational level commensurate with four semesters of instruction in American Sign Language.
• There is a charge of $150.00 for this screening.
• ASLEI applications will not be reviewed until the screening is complete.
If you are a nationally credentialed interpreter (RID or EIPA 4.0+ and EIPA written test) the ASL Demonstration of Competency will be waived.
The screening takes place online through a UNC Blackboard online class and has 3 components:
- ASL Expressive
- ASL Knowledge: Linguistics and Culture.
- ASL Receptive
It's important to note that screening is for ASL competency, not PSE, SEE, etc. Use your best ASL skills for this screening.
In order to register and complete the ASL screening you must first submit the ASLEI application. Once the application has been submitted an email will be sent to you (two weeks prior to screening) with instructions on how to register.
