Leilani Johnson

Leilani Johnson, Ed.D.; IC/TC, CI, NAD III, Director

Dr. Johnson is the architect and administrator of the UNC-DO IT Center, having solicited and managed more than $15.3 million of federal grants and State Education Agency partnership contracts since establishing the Center’s work in 1993.  At present, her primary focus is the distance-delivered pre-service baccalaureate program.  Additionally, she supervises the Mid-America Regional Interpreter Education Center.  Dr. Johnson has presented at local, regional, national and international events and she is published in the field.  Her doctorate in Instructional Technology and Distance Education was earned at Nova Southeastern University.

LaNae Phillips, Instructional Coordinator

LaNae Phillips, A.G.S., Instructional Coordinator

LaNae is the Instructional Coordinator for the DO IT Center and works on the Instructional Design and Development team at the Office of Extended Studies. She was recently certified as a Quality Matters reviewer for both K-12 and post-secondary online classes. LaNae's paternal grandparents and other family members are deaf, which initiated her interest in the interpreting field. She has been involved in educational interpreting since 1993 in Nebraska and Wyoming. When she successfully completed the Educational Interpreting Certificate Program (EICP) pilot in 1999, she branched out to include community interpreting.  LaNae has also served on various boards and committees in Wyoming and Colorado.

Susan Brown

Susan E. Brown, M.Ed.; Ed:K-12, Administrative Coordinator

Susan has been with the DO IT Center since 2007 and is primarily responsible for marketing and recruitment within the ASL-English Interpretation BA program.  In addition to these responsibilities Susan has also taught in the Educational Interpreter Certificate Program and currently teaches in the ASLEI program.  Susan’s educational background includes a B.F. A. from the University of Arizona and a M.Ed. from Regis University.  Prior to working for the Center, Susan worked for 14 years as an educational interpreter and continues to be actively involved in educational interpreting issues on local, regional and national levels.

Sherry Schriver

Sherry Schriver, Resource and Logistics Assistant

Sherry Schriver is the Resource and Logistics Assistant for the DO IT Center. Her responsibilities are split between the Lowry and Greeley Campuses of UNC. She started with the Center January 2001 and has worked in the accounting field for the past 25 years. Sherry provides support for all DO IT Center financial activities including managing the budgets for the Center's multiple grants, travel for Center activities, ordering of instructional and office supplies and materials, as well as handling the contracts for the DO IT Center's distance and adjunct staff members.

Mid-America Regional Interpreter Education Center Staff

Anna Witter-Merithew

Anna Witter-Merithew, M.Ed.; CSC, SC:L, OIC:C, SC:PA, CI and CT, Director

Anna is Director of the Mid-America Regional Interpreter Education Center.  MARIE addresses in-service training needs of interpreters at all skill levels in an 11-state region.  Anna has nearly 40 years experience as a practitioner, teacher and program developer/administrator.  Her specialty areas include community and legal interpreting, diagnostic assessment, and mentoring.  She is published extensively. Her leadership contributions include service as past President and Vice President of the Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf and co-founder and past Vice President of the Conference of Interpreter Trainers. Anna master’s degree from Athabasca University is with emphasis in instructional design and distance learning.

Carrie White

Carrie White, B.A., K-12 CO License, Project Coordinator

MARIE has a new project coordinator, Carrie White, who replaces Amy Kroll. Carrie is a graduate of the UNC- DO IT Center ASL-English baccalaureate program and has been a K-12 interpreter for the past 14 years in the state of Nevada. She has worked for the DO IT Center as a mentor for students in the EICP program and has been trained as a diagnostician. Carrie brings many years of experience in project coordination, project development, administrative duties, and grant-writing. Please help us welcome Carrie! We are delighted to have her onboard.
