Products and Resources

The DO IT Center is dedicated to advancing the field of interpreter education and competency. As a result, the Center participates in projects, makes presentations at conferences, and publishes articles and reports aimed at professionalizing the field. The Center has also offered 5 model courses that can be adapted for use.

In addition, the Center has a Lending Library of resources available to interpreters in RSA Mid-America Region.

Lending Library The DO IT Center has set up a Lending Library for working and aspiring interpreters who are either currently enrolled in DO IT Center classes and/or live in the RSA Mid-America Region (Colorado, Montana, North Dakota, South Dakota, Utah, New Mexico, Wyoming, Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, and Louisiana) who wish to improve their interpreting and/or communication skills.

 

Lending Library

Publications
Entry to Practice Competencies Developed as a part of the National Distance Learning Center Project, the Entry-to-Practice Competencies define 33 competencies in 5 domains that are required for competence based practices as an interpreter.
Video Relay Service Task Analysis Report This report was developed by the DO IT Center in collaboration with Communication Services for the Deaf, Inc. and Sorenson Media. The primary purpose of the research is to provide empirical evidence by identifying the required skills, knowledge, and personal attributes required by interpreters to effectively perform video relay work.

Model Courses

These courses were completed as a part of the National Distance Learning Center project and distributed to enhance the field of interpreter Education. The courses are designed to be delivered online using a Learning Managment System that facilitates the use of asynchronous discussion groups.

Language Development Courses

These two course are a part of the Educational Interpreting Certificate Program, a three year program designed to enhance the skills of working educational interpreters. These courses distributed together because they form a unit of learning that deals with how both hearing and deaf children acquire language and use language at school.

Skills Courses

The next two courses demonstrate the methodology used by the DO IT Center to provide ASL skills development at a distance. These are the first two distance skills development courses taken by EICP students. The students receive an introduction to the skills development process in their first onsite summer session, which is prior to these two courses. The courses use a guided workbook to help students work through the discourse analysis process and self-assessment of their interpreting skills.
