ASA

Office of Academic Support & Advising. ASA leads the University’s efforts in advising undeclared and probation students, promoting learning communities, providing academic support through free tutoring and supplemental instruction, and orienting new students and their families. Bearmail

A student’s University email account, commonly referred to as “Bearmail” or “Bluemail,” and follows the pattern of the first four letters of the student’s last name and four random numbers (ex: gray1889@unco.edu). The University and professors use this account to communicate with students; it is very important that students check this account regularly

Bear Number

The identification number used for all individuals associated with UNC, including students, faculty and staff. This number typically looks like “80XXXXXXX”

The Breezeway

The walkway through McKee Hall on West Campus that has hosted many protests and rallies over the years. The Breezeway is named for the wind that sweeps through McKee Hall.

“Candy”

The nickname of Candelaria Hall on West Campus.

Central Campus

The oldest part of the UNC campus, located between 8th and 10th Avenues and 16th and 20th Streets. Home to the Colleges of Performing & Visual Arts and Natural & Health Sciences and the Monfort College of Business.

COF

College Opportunity Fund. This fund helps students pay for college in the state of Colorado, and was created by the Colorado General Assembly. Please see www.collegeincolorado.org for more information.

Credit

A unit of academic work representing an hour of classroom time per week. An average course is 3 credits, meaning that the course meets 3 hours per week (usually MWF for 1 hour a day, or TR for 1.5 hours a day). An average course load is 15 credits per semester. Students need to complete 120 credits to graduate from UNC.

Downtown

Greeley’s revitalized downtown area is located north of 16th St. and east of 11th Ave., with the heart of downtown at 8th Ave. and 9th St. The many opportunities for UNC students to engage in the life of Greeley include the Ice Haus (where UNC Ice Hockey plays its home games), Mad Cow Creamery, Salvador Deli, Island Grill, The Rio, Woody’s Newsstand, Lincoln Park, and many more! East Campus

The second oldest part of the UNC campus, located between 3rd and 6th Avenues and 17th and 20th Streets. Home to Jackson Sports Complex, University Apartments, Challenge Ropes Course, and Parsons Hall.

Front Desk

The front desk of any residence hall serves as the hub of information for that community, and is staffed 24/7 by trained staff members. Residents can make change for laundry, check-in visitors, get mail and special packages, buy stamps, check-out cleaning equipment, games, and movies, and find out what is happening in their community and how to get involved.

Greek

These students are not necessarily from Greece! Greeks at UNC include students who are in traditional (social), cultural, and academic fraternities and sororities.

HD

The Hill

The highest point in Weld County, on top of which sits the University Center. Every year, “Movie on the Hill” takes place during Welcome Week.

IDLA

Interdisciplinary Studies: Liberal Arts. Technical classification of Elementary Education majors.

Major / minor

A student’s major is their primary area of study at the University, usually requires at least 40 credits, and will be noted on their diploma upon graduation. A student’s minor is their secondary area of study, and usually requires about 18 credits.

PDID

Personal Digital Identification. This username is synonymous with the student’s Bearmail account. For example, if a student’s Bearmail address is gray1889@unco.edu, their PDID is "gray1889”.

PVA

College of Performing & Visual Arts. Click here to visit the PVA website.

RA

Resident Assistant. The RA is the mentor, helper, planner, older sibling, and role-model for their community. RA's help their students acclimate to campus, find their way around, give advice, plan educational and social events, and develop their communities in positive ways.

The Rec

SRC

Student Representative Council. SRC is the student government for undergraduates at UNC and works toward improving the lives of all students. Click here to visit the SRC website.

Streets and Avenues

Navigating the city of Greeley is easy if you remember one rule. Avenues go north and south, and Streets go east and west (notice the underlined “st”).

TK

Tobey-Kendel Hall. Home to the Department of Housing & Residence Life and the primary dining center for Central Campus.

UC

University Center. The UC is our student union and conference center, representing the center of student life at UNC. Includes the offices of Student Activities, Career Services, Student Representative Council, Greek Life, GLBT Resource Office, University Program Council, Center for International Education, Event Planning and the UNC Card Office. Amenities include: Starbucks, Taco Bell, Zachariah’s Food Court, Barnes & Noble College Bookstore, Wells Fargo, Computer Commons, James Campus Salon, Bear Logic Computer Store, and FedEx Kinko’s. Undeclared

Students who have not yet declared their major field of study. Undeclared students have 30 credits to declare a major, and work with an advisor in Academic Support & Advising to discuss and plan their academic work at UNC.

UNC

The University of Northern Colorado. An institution that goes beyond the mandate to educate, that teaches students, stimulates, and challenges all members of the community and transforms their lives.

UPC

URSA

University Records System Access. URSA is the primary gateway to electronic information for students, faculty and staff. West Campus

The newest part of the UNC campus, located between 11th and 17th Avenues and 20th and 24th Streets. Home to the Colleges of Education & Behavioral Sciences and Humanities & Social Sciences, the University Center, the Campus Recreation Center, Michener Library, and Nottingham Field.

West Tenth Street

This area of northern Greeley between 23rd Ave. and 65th Ave. includes a bustling business and commercial corridor with numerous shops, restaurants, retailers, and community activities.
