Sign Language Interpreting
UNC students who are D(d)eaf or hard of hearing and use interpreters as part of their DSS accommodations may make requests for any event, course or sponsored activity. This may include, but is not limited to, UNC theater productions, student organization meetings, and student meetings with faculty.
For faculty, staff, or department requests, there may be fees associated depending on the circumstance of the request. Please fill out the Interpreter Request form as completely as possible and the Interpreter Coordinator will contact you as soon as possible. We request 3 business days notice for all interpreter requests; though not guaranteed, every effort will be made to fulfill last minute requests. Requests canceled with less than 24 hour notice will still be charged.
Please note, we cannot accept requests for events hosted at UNC by other organizations. In these cases, it is the responsibility of the sponsoring organization to provide interpreters. For off campus events, it is usually the responsibility of the sponsoring organization to provide interpreters. Finally, we cannot provide interpreters for any social occasions without UNC sponsorship. If you have any questions about the provision of an ASL interpreter, please contact the Interpreter Coordinator at email@example.com.
